Overview
The CoinDesk API served the Bitcoin Price Index (BPI) — the classic api.coindesk.com/v1/bpi/currentprice.json endpoint used by thousands of tutorials. CoinDesk’s data business now lives under the CoinDesk developer platform (which also absorbed CryptoCompare).
⚠️ Status (verified 2026-08):
api.coindesk.comis currently unreachable from our network (connection failures). The legacy BPI endpoint should be considered retired — CoinDesk now directs developers to developers.coindesk.com for market data.
