Overview

XIVAPI is the community-maintained database API for Final Fantasy XIV: items, characters, jobs, quests, achievements, market data, and more — keyless and CORS-enabled. The standard backend for FFXIV fan tools, market trackers, and character showcase apps.

Authentication

• Public endpoints (items, search, characters) are keyless (verified).
• Market data and heavier endpoints need a free public API key (xivapi.com → login → get a key), sent as X-API-Key header.

Rate Limits & Notes

• Keyless requests are limited (roughly 10/min anonymously); with a key ~60/min — cache responses.
• Data is scraped/curated from the game client files — fields follow the game’s internal structure (capitalized keys like ID, Name).
• Icons/images are served from xivapi.com/i/... paths — hotlinkable.
• The project is community-run; availability is generally good but not guaranteed.

Is XIVAPI free? Yes — keyless for public data; a free key raises limits and unlocks market data.

Do I need a key? For market endpoints and higher limits, yes — registration is free.

Why are keys capitalized? The data mirrors the game client’s internal schema.
